Parent Focus Group

On Monday 8th October, the Parent Focus Group met for the first time this term. It was great to see so many new faces to the group and we have a fantastic representation of all year groups in Strandtown.  Mrs Hutchinson began the session by recapping on the many things that have been implemented as a result of the Parent Focus group feedback and the parent survey last year. Here are some examples:

  • Review of allocation of musical instruments and opening it up to Year 5
  • Review of choirs to be more inclusive and so everyone gets the chance to participate
  • Year group parent meetings adapted following feedback e.g. Year 5 parents got the opportunity to meet their new teacher in the classroom
  • Better communication with parents regarding the building work – specific section now on website for communication

Following that, we had the opportunity to review three policies – Positive Behaviour/Home Learning/Health eating and to provide feedback to Mrs Hutchinson on those policies to ensure they were clear and concise. We also had a general discussion around a number of things including:

  • Promoting use of the school app for parents which will help with communication – we are aware that there are some parents who use this app regularly. If you don’t, please speak to someone who does as its invaluable and keeps you completely up to date with what is happening.
  • Budgets and the on going issue of funding for Strandtown – please keep updated via the website for information about this as the issues aren’t going away
  • On going review of the new music system and continuing to liase with Belfast School of Music to keep the system effective for pupils

The views of parents are very much taken on board and acted upon in Strandtown – if you have any further suggestions to make Strandtown an even better school to attend, please speak to the staff or anyone on the PTA or Parent Focus Group – your views matter!
